Sziget Festival, (pronounced see’-get) takes place in Budapest, Hungary. It takes place on an island on the danube the Óbudai-sziget (”Old-Buda Island”). Sziget means island in hungarian.

Why Sziget?
The Sziget Festival has grown from a small student gathering and into one of Europe’s largest music and cultural festivals.
It boasts a huge crowd, diverse in its origin, with over half of its visitors from outside Hungary.
Taking place in Budapest, the Sziget Festival brings thousands of people over one hundred performances every year.
The Sziget Festival takes pride in showcasing a largely assorted number of artists, ranging from traditional Rock acts to Jazz, Blues, Dance and Metal.
The 2008 Sziget Festival beckons music fans with open arms after having secured another superb line-up. This year, festival goers will see:
Sex Pistols, Roisin Murphy, Leonard Cohen, Iron Maiden, R.E.M and Die Artze.
On the World Music Stage, there will be acts from Transglobal Underground, Natacha Atlas and Seun Kuti.
Previous acts have included:
Iggy Pop, The Stone Roses, Sonic Youth, David Bowie, Patti Smith, Faithless, Nick Cave and many more.

Top Sziget Highlights
1. Nine Inch Nails – 2007
Almost twenty years after Nine Inch Nails were formed by Trent Reznor, the band took the Sziget crowd by storm as NIN bombed the stage with a shattering set and a truly inspiring performance.
2. Radiohead perform Exit Music – 2006
Radiohead put on a stifling performance of Exit Music which was used for Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. Cast under a wobbly blue glow, Radiohead performed like quivering angels in the night, while the crowd – dumbfounded with awe – wailed along with the ever enigmatic Thom.
3 The Prodigy – Breathe 2006
2006 saw an astounding performance from The Prodigy – the perfect band to lose yourself to at a festival. The crowd went wild for Keith’s screaming antics and completely lost control as he began, with vocals fuelled by fire, to throw ‘Breathe’ in to the swirling audience below him.
